The Golden Retriever breed was developed at the highland estate of Sir Dudley Majoribanks in Scotland, later known as Lord Tweedmouth.

Tweedmouth bred all kinds of animals, trying to perfect different breeds. He aimed for a retriever that would be talented, loyal, and even-tempered in the home. He crossed the original Yellow Flat-Coated Retriever with the Tweed Water Spaniel. He later crossed the Bloodhound, Irish Setter, and more Tweed Water Spaniel. The dogs were called the Golden Flat-Coat and were later given the name Golden Retriever.

Appearance:

The Golden Retriever is a medium-large sized dog. Its skull is broad and the muzzle is straight. Its nose is black or a brownish black.  Its teeth meet in a scissors bite. Its eyes are medium to large and are dark brown.  Its ears are short and they hang down close to the cheeks. When It has a thick tail with feathering along the underside. Its coat color comes in a cream to a rich golden.

Temperament:

The Golden Retriever is a lovable, well-mannered, intelligent dog with a great charm. It is easily trained, and is patient, gentle with children, and is could be a great family dog. It is energetic and loving. It enjoys pleasing its masters, so obedience training could be very rewarding.
